Great But Not PerfectBy: James Frew on 27 September 2024Yep, I do love these Dakar pants. They are very comfortable here in warm Australia. They are light and run cool. On cold days a light 100% Merino base layer works a treat. The large vents work well but an additional exhaust in the back would be helpful too. The large zipped pockets are superb. The toggle attached to the pocket zipper is a great touch and super-helpful with gloves on. Studded front fasteners are good but I wonder how long before they weaken and another fastener may need to be added [rather than bin the pants]. The Velcro adjusters are good if a little short. Also added stretch to the waistband would have been a helpful addition. The leather inner-thigh pads are great giving grip and adding some protection from engine heat [where needed]. The ITB ankle area is perfect and gives almost zero bulk. I prefer ITB pants. No armour is included but I prefer my own rather than the suggested D30. Price is a bit high. That is unavoidable, sadly. The internal finishing [stitching and trimming of material] leaves a bit to be desired. The competition [pricier I know] wins that one, easily. I did try a competitor's ["better"?] product from USA's MM but the sizing did not work for me, sadly. Their product undoubtedly beats Klïm's quality but the price is +$200. Conclusion? The Dakar is strongly recommended. There are, however, much better cool-running pants out there, you will have to pay significantly more for that though. 4 stars over all and 1 lost for shabby internal finishing and lack of elasticity on the waistband.
